Beryllium, a low molecular weight metal, has unique and valuable properties for coating plasma facing walls in a fusion reactor. Developed as part of the International Thermonuclear Reactor Project, LANL has unique capabilities for coating components with beryllium using a plasma spray technique. The coatings achieve nearly full theoretical metal density.
